Lucia Mar Parents and Families,
The school year is quickly approaching and we are well aware that there are many unanswered questions about what school will look like. Please read the following update to get additional information that will likely be helpful to you. We understand that this may not answer all your questions, but we want to help each of you make the best decisions for your student in these challenging and unusual times. We also want to share that if your family is still considering enrolling in Pacific View Academy, we have extended the enrollment deadline to Friday, July 31, at 9:00 am. You can click this link to enroll your child at PVA if you would like to do so. If you have questions about PVA, or would like to remove your student from the list to return to your home school, simply call PVA at 805-474-3000 x. 5801.
Elementary Sites
School will be in session for 1st-6th grade students Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm. School will be in session for TK/K students Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm. Students will join a live Google Meet with their teacher and their class to start each day at 9:00 am. After 9:00 am, teachers will provide a regular schedule of instruction that includes English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, PE, and other learning opportunities. Students will have the opportunity to go live with their class in both small and large groups, and will also have the opportunity to work independently on self-paced assignments.
Students will NOT be online all day from 9:00 am-2:30 pm. Rather, they will have scheduled times to meet with their teacher and classmates, and will also be assigned other tasks to work on during the day. Regular breaks for “recess” are also included.
On Friday all students will join a short live meeting at 9:00 am to check in with an adult to assess their work for the week, ask questions, and work on study skills to learn in the distance environment. After that they will work on self-paced catch up, turn in any homework or other material due at the end of the week, and potentially participate in intervention, reteaching, enrichment, or other opportunities. The schedule will be more flexible on Fridays to provide everyone an opportunity to reset and check in, and to adjust for the upcoming week.
Special Education Services
At this time, all students who receive special education services will also receive them through distance learning. As we move into the school year we will have the opportunity to individualize educational programs based on student needs. Per government orders, we are not able to send staff into student homes in our current scenario. The District, in consultation with state and county authorities, will continue evaluating the feasibility of conducting in-person instruction in a way that ensures the safety of students, families and staff.

Entendemos que la presente pueda no responder a todas sus preguntas, pero queremos ayudar a cada uno de ustedes a tomar las mejores decisiones para su estudiante en estos tiempos tan desafiantes e inusuales. También les queremos comunicar que, si su familia todavía está considerando inscribirse en Pacific View Academy, hemos extendido el plazo de inscripción hasta las 9:00 a.m. del viernes 31 de julio. Escuelas primarias
Para los alumnos de primero a sexto grado de primaria, el horario será de lunes a jueves de 9 a.m. a 2:30 p.m. Para los alumnos de Kinder y Kinder de transición, el horario será de lunes a jueves de 9 a.m. a 1:30 p.m. Los alumnos se unirán a una sesión en vivo de Google Meet con sus profesores y compañeros a las 9:00 am para comenzar el día. Pasadas las 9 am, los profesores darán instrucciones y explicarán el horario que incluye Artes del Lenguaje Inglés, Matemáticas, Ciencia, Estudios Sociales, Educación Física y otras oportunidades de aprendizaje. Los alumnos tendrán la oportunidad de unirse a las sesiones en línea con su clase en grupos pequeños y grandes, y tendrán también la oportunidad de trabajar en sus tareas de manera independiente y a su propio ritmo.
Los estudiantes no permanecerán conectados todo el día de 9:00 a.m. a 2:30 p.m.. Mejor dicho, tendrán sesiones programadas para unirse a su profesor y compañeros y también se les asignarán otros trabajos durante el día. Los descansos regulares para el “recreo” también están incluidos.
Los viernes, todos los estudiantes se enlazarán a una sesión con un adulto a las 9:00 a.m. para evaluar los trabajos de la semana, hacer preguntas y trabajar en las habilidades de aprendizaje a distancia. Después se pondrán al corriente, entregarán las tareas o trabajos programados para ese día y, potencialmente, participarían en intervenciones, recapitulación, enriquecimiento, entre otras. El horario será más flexible los viernes, para darles a todos la oportunidad de ajustar, revisar y programar la siguiente semana.
Servicios de Educación Especial
De momento, todos los estudiantes que reciben servicios de educación especial también los recibirán a través del aprendizaje a distancia. A medida que avancemos en el año escolar, tendremos la oportunidad de individualizar los programas educativos basándonos en las necesidades de los estudiantes. Por órdenes del gobierno, dada la situación actual, no podemos enviar personal a los hogares de los estudiantes. El Distrito, consultando con las autoridades estatales y del condado, continuará evaluando la viabilidad de llevar a cabo la instrucción en persona de una manera que garantice la seguridad de los estudiantes, de las familias y del personal.
